The "Act to improve equity in access to higher education in North Rhine-Westphalia" of 01 March 2011, the abolition of tuition fees decuder by the Düsseldorf parliament. From the winter semester 2011/2012 are therefore at the universities of North Rhine-Westphalia no tuition contributions.
All students have to pay a fee called “semester contribution” (Sozial- und Studierendenschaftsbeitrag) each semester (at present SS 2012 is 253.00 €). This contribution is not a tuition fee, but is used to support student bodies and the charge for the semester ticket (public transport in Duisburg and Essen, and area around).
Please note that the first payment is only required after your enrolment. On the occasion of enrolment you are informed on payment details. Payments for subsequent semesters can be processed online (see information on re-enrolment).
